175,000 Kentuckians Placed on ‘Inactive’ Voting List, Suit Claims
The Kentucky Democratic Party contends in a new lawsuit that the State Board of Elections placed 175,000 registered voters on an “inactive list,” possibly infringing on their right to vote.
Kentucky Democratic Party Chairman Ben Self said in a statement the party determined the lawsuit was necessary to prevent “unfair burdens” on voters.
Races for governor and other statewide offices are on the Nov. 5 ballot.
Board Executive Director Jared Dearing said last month that no voters on the inactive list have been removed from the voter registration database. Officials have said voters on the list are eligible to vote in November.
