It is a device that can save a life when someone goes missing. Project Lifesaver started in 1999 in Virginia. The technology tracks down people who tend to wander off.”We’ve had a couple of finds through the years, they were elderly individuals and I feel like if they had not been found they would have passed away,” said Lt. Teresa Meade with the Wise County Sheriff’s Department.Project Lifesaver is aimed at finding people who wander off due to Alzheimer’s, Dementia, or special needs. Meade said people living in Wise County can get their first device for free but donations are appreciated.You attach a bracelet-like tracker to the person’s arm or ankle. If your loved one goes missing, then call local law enforcement. Using radio technology officials can begin a search.
