Remembering The Hurricane Creek Mine Disaster

Sunday marked the 48th anniversary of the Hurricane Creek Mine Disaster claiming 38 lives in Leslie County, KY. The local band, Hillbilly J.E.D., wrote a song in honor of the fallen and those who survived and are still grieving.Alson Collett helped to rescue the fallen miners in the 1970’s explosion and still lives to tell the coal dust-filled story. Knowing the anniversary was near, members of Hillbilly J.E.D. planned to shoot their music video at the memorial site, and asked Collett to be a part of the video.
