Corbin Community Backpack Program Expands
The Corbin Community Backpack Program feeds close to 1,000 kids a week in Knox and Whitley Counties.The program started thirteen years ago after church members at First Christian Church in Corbin after members had the idea to help kids going hungry after school that beagn with 30 kids. With the help from church members, businesses, and local volunteers come together to continue growing the Corbin Community Backpack Program, now filling 900 or more bags a week.The program now meets on Monday nights when volunteers put the bags together, and Thursday when prep for the next week is done and resource center staff from local schools pick up the bags for the week.
