West Virginia Stops Diversion Of 911 Funds
In nearby West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice announced Monday that he was pulling Senate bill 289, which would have reduced the amount of funding 911 centers receive across the state. According to the governor’s office, although the intention of the bill was to stop diversion of funds from non-911 related programs, the bill was ultimately going to reduce funding for the 911 centers. The governor heard the concerns of the first responder community, especially 911 personnel and determined that SB 289 needed to be pulled in order to protect funding for 911 centers.
