Voter turnout was expected to be about 31 percent for Tuesday’s statewide elections in Kentucky, or one-third of all registered voters. This is about how many people voted in the last governor’s race, but the actual percentage varies depending on what part of the state you are in. In Perry County, about 20 percent of registered voters participates. This is a “low but steady” turnout according to election volunteers. Polling places were busiest in the mornings as people voted before leaving for work but long lines were not an issue. “It doesn’t matter how much money you have, what your job is, your vote counts the same as everybody else’s,” said the Perry County Clerk.Voter turnout in the Cumberland Valley was higher than the local county clerks expected. They said they did not expect many people to show up, but are glad that more voters made it to the polls before they closed at 6 p.m.
