ARC Report Is Grim For Eastern KY

The Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) released its report of economic status designations for Fiscal Year 2020 on Tuesday.According to the report, 80 Appalachian counties are considered distressed, meaning they rank among the worst 10 percent of counties in the nation. Most Eastern Kentucky counties were included in this number.However, compared to the number of distressed counties in Appalachia in 2008, Fiscal Year 2020 will have the lowest number of counties in this category. 29 Appalachian counties across eight states improved economically, though 18 experienced a negative shift.
