Across the United States, one in six children are considered food insecure. Feeding America says that totals out to be around 12 million kids who don’t know where their next meal is coming from.At Fairview Independent Schools in Boyd County, the district just started a dinner program where they pack up meals for more than 300 students in the district to have during after-school activities and finish for later.”When kids are hungry in the classroom, they can’t learn as effectively,” said Fairview Elementary Principal Sara Smith. “That’s been proven by research.
