Cleaning Up Floyd County

What happened in minutes is now causing days of cleanup in Floyd County. Wednesday afternoon the weather phenomenon known as a downburst shook downtown Prestonsburg with 70-80 mile per hour winds.“I mean you could see trees and leaves and branches swarming everywhere,” said Kayla Lazar, who works at Billy Ray’s Restaurant at the end of West Court Street. “It was a complete whiteout for a matter of a minute and then it was completely over.”West Court Street was where the most damage from the storm occurred. The wind blew a roof of the old Hockshop building, which was being renovated by Mountain Comprehensive Care. The roof blew into the street and onto cars.
