Collecting Coats
A school project has turned into a community project after a student collected coats in Pike County. Pike Central High School senior Rebecca Diamond says a speaker talked to the school and challenged everyone to do something for the community. She started a coat drive to meet that challenge. Then it became even bigger. Diamond says more people should take initiative to help the community. “I think there are more people who need help than what we want to believe,” Diamond pointed out. In collaboration with her youth pastor, Chris Bartley, the duo set up the coat rack in front of Pikeville United Methodist Church.Bartley estimates they have brought in and given out more than 300 coats.
