Decline In Hepatitis A Cases
Last year Kentucky endured one of the worst hepatitis A outbreaks in recent years. Case numbers spiked across the region as food workers were diagnosed, outbreaks happened in jails and there were even deaths.Efforts and programs put forth by health departments like the Kentucky River District Health Department to fight the outbreak has paid off.“It peaked in November and then December just a little drop-off,” said Scott Lockard, the KRDHD Public Health Director. “But then we’ve seen a huge decline in new hepatitis A cases up here through April.”
