Eastern KY Miner Dies

A Bell County man with a dozen years experience is dead following injuries he received while working at a Harlan County mine earlier this month.The Kentucky Energy and Environment Cabinet said Friday that Felix “Matt” North, 48, of Miracle, died Thursday following injuries he received in an accident May 22 at the Rex Coal Co. mine CVB#1 in Cumberland.Gov. Matt Bevin made these remarks after learning of North’s death, ” We are heartbroken to learn of the passing of a Kentucky coal miner, Matt North, who was critically injured last week in an accident in Harlan County,” Bevin said, adding, “Citizens across Kentucky stand united in support of Matt’s family, friends and the entire Southeast Kentucky community as they mourn this tragic loss.”
