Fighting Food Insecurity

One in six Kentuckians are food insecure and one in five Kentucky school children are at risk of not having their next meal.Kentucky’s Agriculture Commissioner Ryan Quarles is canvasing the state, bringing his agenda of fighting food insecurity to those who will listen. One local solution in Hazard County is a food pantry called God’s Pantry Food Bank with CEO Michael Halligan.”There are lots of ways to make a difference in the life of someone who is a little less fortunate,” said Halligan. While the fight is not a simple one the way to help can be easy. He says they sponsor 33 summer feeding sites across eight different counties and there are dozens of other summer feeding sites sponsored by a host of other different agencies that feed kids during the summertime.
