Getting School Bus Drivers Ready For the New School Year
As summer is coming to an end, parents are preparing for back to school and so are bus drivers across Eastern Kentucky.Bus drivers were put to the test on bus safety Tuesday at Mountain View Elementary School.”Since we have done this, we actually split our classes up. We do half a day driving, half a day in classroom instruction,” said Jamie Roberts, Transportation Area Assistant. “And since we have done that, our accident rates have dropped. Last year, we had zero.”Driving through an enclosed cone course, drivers are taught to maneuver the large vehicle in tight spaces. Most of those spaces include a blind spot.Officials say blind spots are the most common cause of school bus incidents.
