Jefferson Davis Statue
The governor has asked a state commission to approve the removal of a statue of Jefferson Davis from the Capitol Rotunda. This comes a day after another statue of the Confederate president was torn down by protestors in Virginia. The statue of Davis is one of several in the Rotunda and is located near a bronze statue of President Abraham Lincoln. Both Civil War adversaries are represented in the Capitol having both been born in Kentucky. The move by the governor comes during a fast-moving protest movement to remove Confederate monuments around the United States.
