KY Education and Workforce Development Helping Workers
Hundreds of people are now without jobs due to layoffs at two manufacturing plants: Hitachi in Harrodsburg, and Trane in Lexington.Despite this bad news, Kentucky Education and Workforce Development Deputy Secretary Josh Benton said there’s also some good news.”In Central Kentucky, there are 20,000 open jobs right now. When we look back at the average wages of the jobs that happened this calendar year, we’re looking at an average wage of like $16 to $17 an hour says Benton. He explained there’s a high demand for manufacturing workers like technicians, assemblers, electricians, and engineers. The Education and Workforce Development Cabinet’s Rapid Response Team has been connecting laid-off workers with these opportunities.
