KY Rest Stop Gets Makeover

Monday, the Kentucky Finance and Administration Cabinet announced the Whitley County Welcome Center on I-75 in southern Kentucky will close October 4th.The center will be demolished and reconstruction of a new facility is expected to be completed in fall 2020.The frequent closures to the public for maintenance and repair costs have only increased over the years. More than 30 thousand vehicles pass the welcome center per day and it is considered to be in the worst condition of all Kentucky’s welcome centers. The new center will be ADA compliant, house more bathrooms, improve vending and increase safety features.“Funding the brand new facility will offer more truck parking and new amenities to better serve the public and staff,” said Greg Thomas, secretary of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.
