Local Korean War Soldier Remembered

A previously unidentified Korean War soldier is set to be buried in Magoffin County.22-year-old Ray Palmer Fairchild died in action in North Korea on November 27, 1950.Fairchild is originally from the Mash Fork Community of Magoffin County.Ray was a member of Salyersville First Baptist Church.Fairchild’s younger brother, John, has lost many family members in those 69 years but says he never lost hope.”It means everything in the world to me because our parents are gone, my sister is gone, I’m the last one living and maybe it’s my time to close out the family and bring him home, lay him to rest where he was born,” said Fairchild.He will receive full military honors on Saturday, November 23, 2019, at the Magoffin County Funeral Home Chapel, with a burial service to follow at the Fairchild Family Cemetary in Mash Fork.
