Madison Co. to Sell Off Properties to Pay for New Jail
Madison Co. officials say appraisers are set to give their opinion on the values of dozens of properties later this month.
Rather than raise property taxes, residents demanded the the fiscal court begin selling county-owned properties instead. That includes everything from residential sites to Battlefield Golf Course and Wilgreen Lake.
The property tax was to go towards funding a new county detention center in order to relieve overcrowding…instead, thousands of signatures were gathered on a petition protesting the tax hike.
