Pike County Opens Cooling Centers Amid Heat Wave
A number of shelters and cooling centers across Eastern Kentucky, including Pike County, are open this weekend as the temperatures crank up to the upper 90s.
Pike County opened all but one of its senior centers yesterday and again today to serve as cooling stations.
As of now, officials say the buildings will only be open until 6pm, but will stay open as long as they are needed.
The only center in Pike County that remains closed is the Shelby Valley Senior Center because of air conditioning issues.
