A Shelby Valley Clinic healthcare worker is running her second marathon in New York to promote lung cancer awareness. Physician assistant Pamela Newsome began running five years ago for personal health reasons. But her running has turned into a way to promote a healthier lifestyle for her patients. Nationally 45 in every 100,000 people will be impacted by lung cancer. However, according to newsome Kentucky leads the nation in lung cancer incident rates and death rates. She said In Eastern Kentucky, the rate is three times the national statistic.
