Senator McConnell Helping Coal Miners

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell along with two other senators helped secure funding to protect coal families’ pension benefits.The act, which is called the “Bipartisan American Miners Act of 2019,” secures funding for the 1974 miner pension plan.It also expands healthcare benefits provided under the coal miners health care act of 2017.This helps miners whose benefits were at risk due to recent coal company bankruptcies.The action secures pensions for more than 92,000 coal miners and protects healthcare benefits for 13,000 miners.
