Veteran’s Remains Discovered Decades Later

Zelma Givens McDowell was only eight-years-old when her father Jacob Givens left for World War II and soon after he left she never heard from him again.”He went overseas and in October he was missing,” explained McDowell.Just a few weeks ago though, her daughter got a phone call from a military personal asking to speak with Zelma. He explained that they have identified her father’s remains and he will soon return home for a proper burial.”I can’t come up with a word to describe what it’s like,” said McDowell with a large smile.After 75 years of only knowing her father was never going to return home, being able to finally honor the man who paid the ultimate sacrifice gives her peace.The family plans to have a funeral for Jacob Givens in early November.
