Water Rate Increase For Martin County Customers

Martin County Water customers will see an increase in their monthly bill as the crumbling water system struggles to get out of debt. The Kentucky Public Service Commission (PSC) granted the rate increase while also ordering the water district to contract an outside party to operate the utility. In Monday’s order, PSC says failure to follow the terms would either result in a merger with another water system or an appointment of a receiver to operate the utility. This would remove all local control from the water district. The permanent rate increase will add another $3.30 to the average monthly bill for residential customers. This makes the average monthly bill now $54.37.
