Whitley County Veteran Celebrates 100th Birthday

Hubert Siler’s 100 years of life haven’t all been filled with a gathering of family and friends. “We were going over seas. We didn’t know where,” he said. As he shared his stories set back in the 1940s, his friends and family tried to imagine what he was like when he served in the army in the Pacific. “The big bombs, bombs, bombs, bombs. I was on the ship when they invaded the Philippines. And they tried to sink the thing,” Siler said. The Whitley County man is celebrating 100 years of life and his family says Siler is proud to teach and speak about his experiences at church even at 100 years old.
